about nita

I'm a therapeutic coach and the founder of Nita Batta, Inc., a minority and woman-owned practice in Manhattan.

I have deep clinical training — a master's in social work from the University of Pennsylvania, over twenty years of experience, and advanced training from the Beck Institute (CBT) and the Gottman Institute (couples). I'm licensed in New York.

I practice as a coach intentionally. I wanted to work in the present — to be action-oriented, strengths-based, and focused on forward momentum. My clinical background means I can sit with complex emotions, family dynamics, and difficult transitions without flinching. But my coaching approach means we're not looking backward for years. We're building something that works right now.

I think of my role the way a coach thinks about their quarterback. I'm not doing the work for you. I'm helping you see the field, call the right plays, and trust yourself to execute. We design the plan together — and between sessions, I stay in your corner with shared exercises and check-ins to keep us accountable and moving forward.

I developed Walk & Talk because the traditional therapy office isn't the right fit for everyone. Some of my best work happens in motion — side by side, outdoors, moving through the city. For many of my clients, it's the first format that's ever felt right.

Before building my private practice, I worked across clinical, corporate, and community settings. I'm a mentor in the University of Pennsylvania MSW program, an active member of Penn NYC, and a parent of two teenagers who've navigated independent and boarding schools across New York and California. I understand the pressures my clients face — not just professionally, but personally.

who I work with

Individuals in transition — divorce, career change, retirement, loss, empty nest, relocation. The moments when the ground shifts and you're figuring out who you are on the other side.

High-achieving Professionals — executives, founders, attorneys, physicians, creatives. People whose drive has gotten them far but is starting to cost them something.

Couples — navigating communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, or the strain of a big life change on the relationship.

Families navigating aging and caregiving — adult children managing aging parents, spouses stepping into a caregiver role, seniors facing identity shifts around independence and purpose.

Families and Wealth Advisors — generational transitions, next-gen identity, family dynamics, and the behavioral patterns that get in the way of financial planning.

Students and Young Professionals — through Anchor NYC, my coaching program for people finding their footing in New York City for the first time.

“Nita's warm and inquisitive perspective was incredibly helpful. Her expert ability to listen and validate perspectives was instrumental when it came to altering some deep-rooted patterns.”
